NetApp Insight 24 - Day 1
Bring AI to your data
The main event of the day was the first keynote presented by George Kurian to share with us his vision.
With the recent evolution of AI, he stated that we are in a new era of Data and Intelligence.
NetApp is now focused on helping to build an Intelligent data Infrastructure for AI.
To achieve this, NetApp builds a global metadata namespace on top of its BlueXP platform, along with tools to manage, understand, and clean your data in a secure and efficient way.
Three stages were outlined to achieve the goal, and they will be detailed in the coming days.
Here is the keynote's replay.
Anything from the sessions ?
Cloud Insights licensing model
One significant change announced, which should be available starting September 30th, is a new simplified licensing model for Cloud Insights.
Before, you would have to license all assets depending on their kind using Managed Units :
- 1 Managed Unit = 2 physical hosts or 2 VMs
- 1 Managed Unit = 4 TB of raw storage
- 1 Managed Unit = 40 TB of secondary storage
- 1 Managed Unit = 4 CPU in Kubernetes
The costs could rise quite high while using it to monitor your VMware environment for instance.
Tomorrow, it will be based on storage capacity only with an all-inclusive model.
On top of that, some new features are coming to help you optimise your VMware environment following all the recent changes regarding Broadcom licensing.
BlueXP Backup & Recovery
BlueXP Backup & Recovery now aims to be your single cloud control plane that offers world-class volume, application, containers and VM protection capabilities.
At this time, SnapCenter is providing consistent application snapshots and BlueXP Backup & Recovery is only suited for volume backups following the 3-2-1 rule.
In the future, these features should converge into an unified cloud solution.
Besides, they also want to achieve the 3-2-1-1 rule (3 backups, 2 different media, 1 offsite and 1 airgapped using SnapLock / Cybervault).
I registered to participate in the preview for the upcoming features.
